Varsity Four crew finishes first at NCAA Championships

As a team, the Virginia women's rowing team placed sixth at the NCAA Championships at Rancho Cordova, Ca., May 30, but the Varsity Four boat won the NCAA title in their event, edging out Washington by three seconds.

Virginia's championship boat was made up of four freshman rowers: Kerry Maher, Renee Albers, Libby McCann and Ashley Jones. The crew's coxswain was junior Launa Forehand.

The Cavaliers finished with a time of 7:27.50. After Washington (7:30.80), the closest finishers were Brown (7:32.20), Yale (7:34.40) and California-Berkeley (7:39.30).
