The Virginia women's volleyball team improved to 10-2 on the season after finishing second in the Inn Tower Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, this weekend. The Cavs started out the tournament with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-21) loss to the host team, the University of Wisconsin. The loss halted Virginia's seven-game winning streak. The match wasn't the Cavaliers' best, as they had a .079 hitting percentage and only 36 kills.
The Cavaliers, however, bounced back with back-to-back wins on Saturday. They started the day by defeating Cincinnati 3-1 (28-30, 30-18, 30-25, 30-23). After losing game one, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 12-2 lead in game two and went on to win 30-18. With a 28-25 lead in game three, an ace by second-year Emily Perilli and a Cincinnati error gave the Cavs a 30-25 victory. The forth game remained close until Virginia was able to jump out to a 21-17 lead. From there they ended up winning 30-23. The match saw the Cavaliers set a school record with 20.5 blocks.
The Cavaliers finished Saturday with a 3-1 (30-28, 26-30, 30-27, 30-26) win over Marshall. Virginia had a .214 hitting percentage and 52 kills. After splitting the first two games, Virginia took a 27-26 lead in game three on a kill by first-year Sarah Kirkwood and won the game 30-27. The Cavaliers then went on to win game four.
