Virginia third baseman Ryan Zimmerman honored for performance on Team USA

Ryan Zimmerman, third baseman for the Virginia baseball team, was named to Baseball America's 2004 Summer League All-America First Team.

This honor resulted from Zimmerman's stellar play with Team USA this summer, including his performance in the FISU II World University Baseball championship that took place in Taiwan last month. Zimmerman was a major catalyst for the U.S. team which won the tournament. He led the team's offense with a .468 batting average, four home runs, 27 RBI and 36 hits including 12 doubles. His slugging percentage was .805 and he accumulated 62 total bases.

Zimmerman also contributed in the field, posting a .933 fielding percentage. Zimmerman led the U.S. team in home runs, runs batted in and batting average -- capturing the team triple crown. Zimmerman also was named MVP for the tournament.
