Softball loses close game to UNC

The University lost a tight game, 3-2, to North Carolina on Sunday, finishing with a 2-3 overall record on the weekend road trip. The Cavaliers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring a run in both the second and third innings. Sophomore Brooke Sorber scored in the second when junior Jackie Greer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the third, junior center-fielder Jessica Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly by Sorber.

After UNC scored three runs in the third, Virginia had the game-tying run in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings but failed to score in either inning.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend in Charlotte, N. C. with games against Temple and Charlotte.
