With the recent institution of the new Inter-Fraternity Council officers, chapter presidents and their fraternities can expect a new set of goals for improving the internal organization of the Council.
"The main goals for this year's IFC are to internally strengthen the system by giving the presidents a stronger voice, as well as educating individual chapter members," IFC President Ross Kimbel said.
To reach these objectives, IFC has begun to make plans for several changes to the internal makeup of the IFC system, Kimbel said. He said such changes would be made to improve communication between the IFC governing board and the chapter presidents.
One of the new modifications under consideration is the institution of a new IFC office, the member at large, Kimbel said. The position would be filled by an active IFC chapter president who would serve as the liaison between the individual chapter presidents and the IFC governing board. According to Kimbel, the position would foster easier communications between the two parties.
Another consideration for improving the IFC system is the formation of presidential ad hoc committees. Chaired by the member at large, these committees would convene to discuss topics such as IFC issues and ideas and then provide an informed opinion to the IFC governing board on topics addressed in the committee.
The ad-hoc committees also would be composed of active IFC chapter presidents. The creation of the member at large position, along with the president ad hoc committees, would give more voice to the presidents within the IFC, Kimbel said.
Another idea to internally strengthen the IFC system includes a fuller education of IFC policies and procedures to individual fraternity chapter members, according to newly-elected Vice President for Judiciary Dom Genest. Such education would occur through governing board members going to individual chapters and providing an understanding of the IFC policies and the workings of the IFC Judicial System, Genest said.
Genest said he already has initiated the composition and construction of a thorough presentation for this project.
"Our goal is to reach every fraternity man so that they are very knowledgeable of IFCJC processes and procedures so to encourage within the IFC individual ownership," Genest said.
Both Kimbel and Genest said providing IFC ownership to the individual fraternity man is a central goal of the new initiatives.
