Tennis No. 1 earns ACC Player of the Week award

Junior Doug Stewart was named ACC Player of the Week Monday after scoring two straight-set wins in Virginia's dual match victories against No. 63 Virginia Tech and No. 24 Notre Dame.

Stewart, ranked No. 7 in the ITA collegiate ladder, downed Hokie Arvind Puranen and Fighting Irish Brent D'Amico both 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Stewart paired with Darrin Cohen to win both of their matches.

The Player of the Week Award is the second for Stewart this season and the third for a Cavalier in the last four weeks. A week ago, Stewart's doubles partner Cohen received the honors. The Cavaliers travel to Texas to play four road games next week, including a rematch versus No. 1 Baylor.
