Hagans receives preseason recognition

Starting senior Cavalier quarterback Marques Hagans has been designated as a preseason candidate for both the 2005 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and the 2005 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, two of the most prestigious annual honors bestowed upon collegiate quarterbacks.

Hagans is one of 33 candidates under consideration for this year's O'Brien Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate passer. The dynamic Cavalier signal-caller is also among the 22 preseason nominees for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is given to the NCAA's best senior quarterback. The five Golden Arm Award semi-finalists will be revealed Oct. 19, while the field for the O'Brien Award will be narrowed by early November. Last year's winner for both awards was senior Oklahoma standout Jason White.
