WHAT DO Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Richard Nixon and yours truly have in common? No -- it's not that we're all crooks. Rather, as was the case with those notorious figures, friends and foes alike will greet news of my retirement with mixed feelings.
Critics on the left will feel relieved, but also empty, to have one less annoying conservative columnist to kick around. As for my friends on the right, they might be just a little bit saddened, but perhaps also somewhat relieved, by the departure of another stalwart who took the conservative case to logical (and perhaps unpopular) conclusions.
