Break-in and vandalism occur at Delta Sigma Phi over weekend The Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house at 517 Rugby Rd was broken in to and vandalized some time between 8:30 on Saturday evening and 11 on Sunday morning, according to fraternity president Allan Cruickshanks. The vandals apparently broke into the house through the front window and are believed to have stolen one or more of the composites photographs and spray painted '01 on a number of places insides and outside of the house, Cruickshanks said. In addition, there were a number of pictures inside of the house that were torn off the walls and broken.
A fraternity member who discovered the damage placed a report with the police, according to Cruickshanks. At press time, he said he had not heard back from the police regarding the investigation.
"Basically as soon as the police have finished whatever they needed to do we are going to repair the damage," Cruickshanks said. "We're trying to figure out who did this and if they stole anything to see what we can do to get it back."
In the early fall of 2003, the Alpha Mu chapter of the fraternity at the University was reorganized following a hazing incident.
"A number of brothers were expelled, a number chose to deactivate and received alumni status and eight guys chose to stay and rebuild the chapter," Cruickshanks said. "We're now at 30 members. We had 48 last semester but we recently graduated 17 brothers who were the reorganization class."
According to Cruickshanks, the fraternity is still investigating if the "01" has any significance in relation to the reorganization but he could not comment definitively.
