Football practice opens Friday With the Sept. 2 season opener at Pittsburgh now less than a month away, the Virginia football team starts summer training camp Friday. The first practice, which starts at 6:15 p.m. on the practice fields behind University Hall, will be open to the public.

Also, Aug. 17 will be "Meet the Team Day" at Scott Stadium. Gates open at 3 P.M. and fans will be able to get autographs and take pictures with players between 3:45 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Golf Digest ranks Virginia women's golf program in top-5

After just three years of play, the Virginia women's golf program has been listed as one of the nation's top-five golf programs for junior prospects.

Virginia finished fifth behind Duke, UCLA, Rollins and Vanderbilt. The rankings will be published in Golf Digest's September issue.

Devvarman loses in first round of Legg Mason Tennis Classic

Junior men's tennis player Somdev Devvarman lost 6-4, 6-0 to Edgardo Massa of Argentina Wednesday in the opening round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, D.C.

Devvarman was a wildcard entry in the tournament. Earlier this summer, he reached the NCAA Singles Final, where he fell to UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel. Devvarman finished the year with a No. 8 ranking in the collegiate rankings.
