Soccers make NCAA's Yesterday, both the men's and women's Virginia soccer teams received bids to the 2006 NCAA Division I Soccer Championships. The women lost in the quarterfinals and the men lost in the semifinals of the ACC tournament, leaving both teams with one last chance to compete this postseason.
The Virginia women will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend to face West Virginia in the opening round. Earlier this season, the Cavaliers tied the Mountaineers 1-1 in Morgantown, West Virginia. The last time the two teams squared off in the NCAA tournament, in 2002, Virginia defeated West Virginia 1-0 in the second round. Friday's winner will face either Wake Forest or Old Dominion Sunday at 1 p.m.
This year will mark the men's 26th consecutive NCAA appearance. The Virginia men were one of seven ACC teams given an NCAA bid, with six of those teams seeded amongst the top 16. A No. 4 seed has earned the Cavaliers a first round bye and they will host either Bucknell or George Mason in the second round November 15th at Klöckner stadium.
