Six Cavaliers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Earlier this week, the ACC named five Virginia field hockey student-athletes to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Field Hockey team. The players honored include senior Katherine Blair, sophomore Katherine Bounds, senior Biffy Cornelison, senior Mia Link and freshman Traci Ragukas.

This is the second consecutive year that both Blair and Link have achieved this honor. Blair is also a three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association National Academic Squad. The field hockey team, which consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally, compiled a record of 14-8 last season and reached the national quarterfinals in the NCAA Championship.

The ACC also announced Tuesday that junior Virginia tight end Tom Santi was named to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Football Team. Santi finished second on the team with 29 receptions for 253 yards, which was fourth-best in the ACC among receptions for tight ends. In order to be eligible for All-ACC Academic honors, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 GPA during the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 GPA throughout his or her academic career.
