Three Cavs advance past first round in qualifying draw

The Cavalier tennis team will send three players through to the second round of the qualifying draw of the Men's ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa Monday. Two Cavaliers, seniors Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey have already been selected for the main draw of both singles and doubles at the championships because of their high preseason rankings.

Sophomore Houston Barrick put forth a solid effort, upsetting No.-2 seed sophomore Moritz Baumann -- the nation's No. 49 ranked player -- of Wisconsin with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Senior Ted Angelinos also advanced to the second round after downing Michigan freshman Jason Jung 6-2, 7-6.The No.-16 seed junior Dominic Inglot, ranked No. 65 in the nation, advanced with a 7-6, 6-2 win against Kentucky senior Marcus Sundh.All three players are two wins away from moving on to the tournament's main draw, which consistently draws some of the most skilled players in college tennis.

The opening round of the championships begins Thursday.
