Trash more than mere compost

When a band breaks up and one of its members decides to continue on with a solo career in the music industry, there is a certain level of expectation Mr. Solo must live up to. When that defunct band is Pavement, and that solo artist is Stephen Malkmus, those levels of expectation arrive at an almost unreachable height.

The idea of the "solo album" has been fuzzy on Stephen Malkmus' post-Pavement studio LPs. Only two of the four, including the recent release, Real Emotional Trash, credit the Jicks, Malkmus' backing band. This must be partly credited to politics
