The Virginia women's lacrosse team dropped a close decision Saturday in New Jersey against Princeton. The then-No. 2 Cavaliers lost 8-7 to then-No. 4 Princeton after Tiger junior attacker Christine Casaceli scored the go-ahead goal with 2.7 seconds remaining in the game.
Princeton advanced to 6-0 on the season and rose to No. 2 in the polls, while Virginia dropped to 6-2 (2-1 ACC) and No. 4 nationally.
Leading the way for the Cavaliers was junior midfielder Blair Weymouth, with three goals and an assist. Senior attacker and captain Megan O'Malley contributed two goals. Defensively, Virginia senior goalkeeper Kendall McBrearty stopped seven shots, having her third very strong second half in a row, with six saves in the period.
Those contributions weren't enough for Virginia, as freshman midfielder Lizzy Drumm led Princeton with two goals and an assist. Senior attacker Ashley Amo also added a goal and two assists to the Tigers' effort.
Up next for the Cavaliers is a home contest Wednesday at 7 p.m. against James Madison.
