Golfers place ninth at ACC Championship

The Virginia men's golf team finished in ninth place of 11 teams at the ACC Championships this past weekend? at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N.C.

The Cavaliers shot a four-over 868 for all three days of the tournament, four strokes shy of eighth-place Virginia Tech, which finished at even, but well ahead of 10th-place finisher Boston College, which tallied a 22-over 886. The Cavaliers' top finisher was freshman Will Collins, who finished tied for 26th place by shooting a one-over 217.

Florida State won its school's first-ever ACC Men's Golf Championship, shooting a 26-under 838 during the three-day competition. The Seminoles edged runner-up Duke by three strokes.

Wake Forest senior Webb Simpson was the top individual finisher and set an ACC Championship record with an three-day round of 14-under 202.

Virginia will next play in the Cavalier Classic Saturday and Sunday in Charlottesville.
