Bring back the Old Blue Keg

Saturday’s epic football win over UNC reminded me that the two schools, involved in a far longer and greater rivalry than the one with that cow college down in Blacksburg, traditionally competed for a trophy known as The Old Blue Keg. As the name implies, it was a battered old beer keg, one half painted Carolina Blue and White, the other Navy and Orange. Is it still in play? You never hear about it any more, and I wonder if anyone knows what happened to it.
I understand that as the University has evolved it may not be politically correct to celebrate the raucus aspects of college life like this. Drinking beer? God help us! But still, for a school that cherishes so many varied traditions, it would be a shame if the thing is gathering dust in the bowels of U-Hall or the fieldhouse in Chapel Hill. Free the Old Blue Keg!
