Local celeb delves into Palahniuk film
If you haven’t already seen the uproarious Sam Rockwell flick Choke (based on the Chuck Palahniuk book of the same name), here’s another reason why you should: Dave Matthews helped produce it. The former Charlottesville resident  has made a handful of acting cameos in the past few years but is starting to come into a behind-the-scenes role in Hollywood as the co-founder of ATO Pictures. Although Matthews was won over by the clever script and demanded that his company do more than merely finance the film, he told recently the Los Angeles Times that he was “really more of a cheerleader” during the process. Choke is currently playing at the Downtown Mall Regal Cinemas.

HOVA stops by JPJ
If you haven’t heard by now, you either live buried under a pile of books at Clemons or your friends really don’t like you — but the self-proclaimed God of hip-hop hits up John Paul Jones Arena Saturday, Oct. 25. Jay-Z, most recently hyped for his under-the-radar wedding with Beyonce Knowles last April, is known as one of the most successful hip-hop artists and businessmen in the industry. His most recent release, American Gangster (his 10th album, but only the second since he returned from retirement) debuted at number one and was named the third best album of 2007 by Rolling Stone. Tickets go on sale at noon tomorrow.

Jack White and Alicia Keys write new Bond theme
Blues-rocker Jack White (better known as the frontman for The White Stripes and The Raconteurs) and piano-crooner Alicia Keys recently collaborated on the latest James Bond theme, titled “Another Way to Die.” The up-tempo rocker sounds much looser and much grittier than past Bond themes, which may be intended to reflect the franchise’s shift in tone and direction since Daniel Craig was cast as 007. A music video was also released, featuring White and Keys kicking out their latest jam in front of frequently changing computer-generated backdrops. The next Bond film, titled Quantum of Solace, is currently slated for a mid-November release.
