Enough is enough

The clash of the titans continues as the Cavaliers carry out yet another sub-par season. The true controversy though, as it has the last few years, rests on the sidelines rather than between the pylons. As the University’s coaching staff continues to lose both conference games and standout recruits, the “Fire Groh” signs multiply by the week; yet the “Groh for President” signs still stand tall? We continue to lose to the worst teams in the ACC; yet we beat four worthy opponents in four straight weeks? We continue to fail on third down conversions on a regular basis; yet we score touchdowns on 20 yard wide-receiver reverses? For the past few years, we have played questionable, at times controversial, football, yet we have also played risky, rewarding football as well. These constant ups-and-downs could possibly explain why Coach Al Groh is still suiting up on Saturday morning, or why his time may be running out.

Now as we sit here and assess the most important member of our beloved football team, it’s plain to see why many wish to drop Groh like a bad habit. The other side of the spectrum still sees coach Groh as an asset to the University. As long as the “Fire Groh” and “Groh for President” signs continue to overshadow each other, it looks as though our coaching staff is going nowhere. So as this ongoing struggle for justice continues, let me pose this question: When will the cons eventually outweigh the pros? Is it time to take action like Kentucky did with Tubby Smith, and decide good isn’t good enough? As for now, it looks as though we will continue to settle for the worst good coach in the nation. When will enough be enough?
