The Virginia women's volleyball team dropped to 1-2 in the ACC after a long weekend in Florida, falling to both Miami and No. 18 Florida State.
Virginia lost to Miami 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25) Friday. Sophomore outside hitter Simone Asque tallied 16 kills and three aces to lead Virginia's offense, while junior libero A.J. Cushman - compiling 19 hits - headed the team's defensive efforts. Senior co-captain and outside hitter Lauren Dickson had 16 digs and nine kills against the Hurricanes, while junior Kendahl Voelker added a season-best nine kills.
The Seminoles added to the Cavaliers' weekend disappointments Sunday, sweeping Virginia in three sets. The Cavaliers started slow, losing the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-21. A comeback in the third set was stymied, as the Seminoles rallied to a 29-27 victory on their home turf. For Virginia, freshman setter Rachel Gray dolled out 26 assists, helping Asque add 12 kills. Cushman again led the defense with 13 digs and three service aces.
Virginia will look to improve next weekend as it heads to North Carolina to play Duke and Wake Forest.
