Fraser clinches victory for Cavaliers

The No. 26 Virginia women's tennis team defeated its highest-ranked opponent of the season Sunday, topping No. 15 Fresno State 5-2. The Cavaliers (3-1) fell at the No. 1 spot in doubles but bounced back to win the point, as freshman Erin Viera and sophomore Lindsey Hardenbergh won 8-4 at the No. 2 position and junior Neela Vaez and freshman Hana Tomljanovic won 8-3 at No. 3.

The Bulldogs then pulled even with the first singles match. Virginia managed to clinch the overall win with sophomore Emily Fraser's 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 defeat of sophomore Laura Pola at the No. 4spot in singles. After the match was decided, No. 72 Hardenbergh fell to No. 4 senior Anastasia Petukhova in three sets.

Virginia hopes to continue its impressive start Friday against Winthrop at 3 p.m.
