Virginia earns third place in early poll

The Virginia men's lacrosse team will enter the season ranked No. 3 in the nation behind No. 1 Syracuse and No. 2 Duke. Virginia returns six starters and 28 lettermen from last year's team, which finished 15-3 and lost in the NCAA semifinals to tournament runner-up Cornell.

The biggest challenge for Virginia this season likely will be overcoming its lack of experience on the attack line. After having lost seniors Danny Glading and Garrett Billings, the Cavaliers will field an offensive line that consists of only one returner - sophomore attackman Steele Stanwick.

Virginia will get a chance to begin preparing for the spring season this Friday when it scrimmages Navy in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers then will look to the start of their regular season and a quest for their fourth national championship Feb. 20 when they take on Drexel in Philadelphia, Pa.
