Jones to exit program at end of term

Men's basketball coach Tony Bennett announced yesterday that junior guard Jeff Jones will transfer schools and leave the Virginia basketball program.

"Jeff informed me on Sunday that he would be transferring," Bennett said in a University press release. "Although I'm surprised, I'm not shocked and wish Jeff well in the future. Every player is entitled to do what he thinks is best for his future. Jeff obviously believes that is not U.Va., and if a player feels that way it will not benefit him or the team [to stay]."

Jones played in all 31 games for the Cavaliers this season, averaging 7.3 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game. During the 2009-10 season, he led the team in scoring in five games, most recently during the game against Duke in the ACC Tournament. He tallied 15 points on 5-10 shooting from the field during the contest. Jones, throughout his career, started 41 games for the Cavaliers.
