Virginia bounces back with pair of road wins

The No. 40 Virginia women's tennis team defeated No. 32 N.C. State and No. 50 Wake Forest on the road this weekend to end a four-match losing streak.

The Cavaliers started the weekend aggressively against the Wolfpack, taking the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, senior Jennifer Stevens and freshman Hana Tomljanovic prevailed 8-4, while Virginia's No. 3 sophomore Emily Fraser and freshman Maria Fuccillo also won 8-4. N.C. State made a slight comeback by taking two of the first three matches in singles play, but the Cavaliers rebounded and won the next three matches to clinch a 4-3 victory.

Sunday against Wake Forest, the Cavaliers again took the doubles point, sweeping matches on Courts 1 and 2. Virginia continued its strong performance in singles, taking four of six matches, all in straight sets.

Tomljanovic and Stevens were the squad's top performers in the two victories. The tandem won both of its doubles matches together and also went undefeated in singles at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.\nVirginia will conclude its regular season at the Snyder Tennis Center when it plays host to No. 20 Georgia Tech Saturday and No. 9 Clemson Sunday.
