The Virginia women's tennis team won three individual singles titles this past weekend at the U.Va. Fall Invitational. Players from 10 schools competed in the tournament, including N.C. State and Wake Forest.
The Cavaliers dominated the top singles flight, with three players advancing to the semifinals. Sophomore Hana Tomljanovic knocked off the tournament's top seed, Wake Forest junior Martina Pavelec, in the quarterfinals before facing a fellow Cavalier in the semifinals. Sophomore Erin Vierra defeated Tomljanovic in one semifinal matchup, 6-4, 6-3, while junior Emily Fraser fell 6-1, 6-3 against N.C. State's Sanaa Bhambri. Virginia avenged Fraser's loss, however, as Vierra defeated Bhambri in the finals, 6-4, 6-3.
The Cavalier doubles team of junior Lindsey Hardenbergh and Vierra advanced to the finals in the top doubles draw but eventually lost against the Wolfpack duo of Bhambri and junior Sandhya Nagaraj.
Virginia sophomore Maria Fuccillo and freshman Marjorie Baker took the singles titles in flights B and C, respectively.
