Robbery occurs near Carr

A Charlottesville resident was robbed Sunday night while sitting at a picnic table near Carr's Hill Field.

The resident was resting with her head down on the table when a man approached her and took her purse. The man immediately fled in an "unknown direction," according to an e-mail sent by University Police Chief Michael Gibson to the University community.

The suspect was described as a black male in his early to mid-20s, between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing between 120 and 140 pounds, according to the e-mail. In addition, he was wearing a red shirt during the incident.

The robbery is currently being investigated, Lt. Melissa Fielding said.
