Team takes third conference match

The Virginia volleyball team traveled north this weekend and came back with two wins against Boston College and Maryland.

Friday night, the Cavaliers (9-8. 3-4 ACC) beat the Eagles 3-1 with set scores 25-17, 25-27, 25-21 and 25-17. Redshirt sophomore setter Beth Wildermuth tallied her third career double-double with 43 assists and 18 digs, adding two kills, two aces and three blocks. Outside hitters junior Simone Asque and freshman McKenzie Adams notched 15 kills apiece. Adams completed her third collegiate double-double with 10 digs and also added a personal-best seven blocks.

Virginia had a team-best 15 blocks, nine from freshman middle hitter Mallory Woolridge.

The Cavaliers proceeded to sweep Maryland 3-0 Sunday. With set scores 25-22, 25-20 and 25-18, Virginia earned its third-straight ACC win.

The squad, which did not have a single substitute the whole game, was led again by Asque and Adams, who knocked down 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Adams was named ACC Freshman of the Week after her performances helped propel the Cavaliers to two road victories.

Virginia returns home to Memorial Gymnasium this weekend to take on top-ranked Duke and Wake Forest Friday and Sunday, respectively.
