Players fall short at prestigious Indoors

Each member of the Virginia men's tennis team who participated in the ITA National Indoor Individual Championships yesterday in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. lost his opening round match. Freshman Alex Domijan, the top seed in the 32-player singles draw, was upset in the first round by sophomore Rhyne Williams of Tennessee, 7-6, 7-6. Senior Sanam Singh fell by the same score as the No. 18 seed to Denver sophomore Enej Bonin. Junior Drew Courtney held a one-set lead against Pepperdine sophomore Sebastian Fanselow but dropped the next two to lose the match.

Sophomore Jarmere Jenkins and senior Michael Shabaz, who is currently competing in the Virginia National Bank Tennis Championships at the Boar's Head Sports Club, withdrew from the event. Shabaz was slated to be seeded eighth in the singles draw and to pair with Courtney as the top seed in the doubles draw.

The women's team was represented by the 11th-seeded doubles duo of sophomore Maria Fuccillo and freshman Rashmi Teltumbde. The tandem dropped its opening round match against Clemson juniors Josipa Bek and Keri Wong by a score of 8-1.
