Virginia goes down in ACC Tournament

The No. 5 Virginia women's soccer team fell to No. 18 Boston College in the ACC quarterfinals at WakeMed Soccer Park last night by a score of 1-0. It marked the second straight year during which the Cavaliers were eliminated by the Eagles at that stage of the ACC Tournament.

Boston College (13-5-1, 6-5 ACC) - seeded sixth in the tournament - managed only one shot on goal, but it was enough to advance them to a Friday semifinal matchup against second-seeded Maryland. Junior midfielder Julia Bouchelle dished to sophomore forward Maddie Payne, who put the ball past Virginia junior goalkeeper Chantel Jones in the 66th minute for the match's lone goal.

The ACC loss marked the first from third-seeded Virginia (13-4-2, 7-3-1 ACC) since its 1-0 overtime defeat by North Carolina Oct. 8. The Cavaliers will learn their draw in the NCAA Tournament when the field of 64 is announced Monday.
