The heart and soul of a nation

Last week, I read an argument in this very paper that I've been hearing a lot in recent years: Baseball has lost its title as "America's pastime." Well, to me that's just a bunch of hogwash. Baseball is no doubt the greatest game in the world, and the fact that some Americans forget to tune in every once in a while doesn't change that fact one bit.

We seem to have forgotten this lately, however, and it's not hard to see why. We have been overwhelmed with dirty stories regarding our heroes' use of performance-enhancing drugs or crooked owners' choices to raise ticket prices. But the heart and soul of our pastime never has been located within the major leagues. Instead, it is found in the game that many of us played as kids - and the one that's still in our hearts and our minds

But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
