The No. 14 Virginia women's soccer team suffered its second loss of the season yesterday afternoon against No. 18 Boston College, 2-0. After a dominating 4-1 win against No. 6 Maryland during their ACC opener, the Cavaliers (7-2-1, 1-1 ACC) failed to score despite a 13-6 advantage in shots against the Eagles (6-0-2, 1-0 ACC).
A plodding first half of play saw both teams enter the locker room with three shots and no goals. Boston College took the lead in the 52nd minute when freshman forward Stephanie McCaffrey scored on a breakaway. The Eagles padded their lead in the 70th minute when freshman midfielder Casey Morrison converted a penalty kick against senior goalkeeper Chantel Jones. Jones finished the game with one save.
Virginia will have a week to recover from the shutout before it visits No. 7 North Carolina next Sunday. The game marks the squad's second stop on a four-game road trip. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. and the game will be nationally televised by ESPNU.
