In a disappointing start to regular season play, the Virginia volleyball team dropped two matches against Virginia Tech and Connecticut in Blacksburg this weekend. Despite heading into the matches boasting a solid 6-3 record, the Cavaliers (6-5, 0-1 ACC) captured only two sets during the entire weekend, losing 3-1 against both the Hokies (8-4) and the Huskies (8-5).
The defeat at the hands of Virginia Tech marked the Cavaliers' fourth straight loss against the Hokies and the sixth time that Virginia has returned from Blacksburg without a win.
Junior middle blocker Jessica O'Shoney led the team offensively throughout the weekend with 27 total kills, while sophomore libero Emily Rottman contributed 39 total digs on the defensive front during the two matches. Senior outside hitter Simone Asque, meanwhile, tallied 23 kills during the weekend's eight sets.
The Cavaliers now eye an opportunity to rebound next weekend as Florida State and Miami descend on Charlottesville.
