Less than two weeks after coach Jason Vigilante resigned from his post as coach of the Virginia men's and women's track and field and cross country teams, the Cavaliers will begin the indoor track and field season without a head coach at this weekend's Liberty Kick-Off in Lynchburg.
The meet, which will take place tomorrow and Saturday, pits Virginia against a handful of in-state foes, including host Liberty, Radford, VMI and Lynchburg. The Cavaliers will also earn the opportunity to get an early look at ACC rivals Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, which will also send competitors to the nearby event.
Entering the season opener, Virginia welcomes back six of the 10 athletes who claimed All-ACC honors during last year's indoor track and field season, including senior Kevin Anding, junior Brett Johnson, sophomore Anthony Kostelac, senior Marcus Robinson, sophomore Vanessa Fabrizio and senior Morgane Gay. Kostelac and Robinson each return as reigning ACC champions in their respective events and look to lead the men to a second consecutive top-five finish in the conference.
Fabrizio and Gay, meanwhile, bolster the women's group, which earned a top-30 finish during last season's NCAA Indoor Championship.
