Virginia Athletics announced in a University-wide email Sunday that John Paul Jones Arena will open its doors to the University community for the National Championship game Monday night as Virginia faces Texas Tech in Minneapolis. JPJ Arena is home to Virginia’s men’s and women's basketball teams.
Admission and parking for the event are free of charge and open to the public. The clear bag policy, as well as the typical security procedures for home basketball games, will be enforced, according to the email.
The game, which airs on CBS and is set to tipoff at 9:20 p.m., will be displayed over Hoo Vision — the giant video board in the center of the arena. The doors to JPJ Arena will open at 8 p.m.
The arena, which seats 14,593 people, has already hosted events for Virginia fans this season, including ESPN’s College Gameday before Virginia faced Duke at home. For the Final Four, the University hosted watch parties at the Aquatic & Fitness Center as well as the McIntire Amphitheatre.
The game marks the first ever National Championship appearance for the Virginia men’s basketball team.
