University Police Department obtains warrants for Larry Young in connection with incident at Alderman Library

Young was charged with six offenses

Sergeant Ben Rexrode of the University Police Department released a press release Tuesday afternoon announcing that the University of Virginia Police Department obtained several warrants for Larry Allen Young in connection with an incident on Grounds Monday evening.

Young, 24, of Orange County has been charged with six offenses and is currently being held without bond at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Regional jail. The charges include abduction, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, pointing and brandishing a firearm, assault and battery, violation of a protective order and purchase or transportation of a firearm by person subject to a protective order.

At approximately 5:08 p.m. Monday, officers from UPD and the Charlottesville Police Department were dispatched to Central Grounds Parking Garage to attend to a report of a possible robbery with a weapon. Officers followed Allen to the construction area at Alderman Library, where they negotiated with Allen until taking him into custody. At 6:09 p.m., the situation at Alderman Library was deemed stable by the Emergency management team and the shelter in place order was lifted.
