Grit Coffee, a popular coffee shop with locations on the Corner, Charlottesville, Crozet and Richmond, announced it will open its first on-Grounds shop Thursday in an Instagram post on Saturday.
Since the coffee shop opened in 2008 on the University Corner, the coffee and pastry company has remained highly popular with both students and locals. Expanding to Richmond in 2020, Grit has continued its growth across cities in Virginia.
“The Grit experience is coming to Nau Hall, easily accessible from Central Grounds and JPA,” the post reads.
Grit COO Dan FitzHenry explained the company’s expansion onto Grounds in terms of the shop’s popularity among students.
“We've expanded shops in Charlottesville and outside of Charlottesville, and I think we have a really good following among U.Va. students, and I think it's a logical next step for us,” FitzHenry said.
Grit’s drink menu includes coffee, espresso, tea and hot chocolate, with alternative milks such as almond milk and oat milk available.
The Nau Hall Grit will utilize U.Va. Dine’s GrubHub ordering options, and students will be able to use their meal plans towards their purchases.
FitzHenry also said the store plans to adapt its layout to the design of Nau Hall and the University.
“Each of our shops looks a little bit different and kind of caters to the community around it,” FitzHenry said. “So it's going to be very particular to that kind of academic building style.”
Until the Nau Hall location officially opens, students can visit existing Grit locations on Elliewood Street on the Corner, at the Downtown Mall or Stonefield Shopping Center.
