The Charlottesville Fire Department responded to a reported fire at roughly 9:15 p.m. on the third floor of Bice House, per a community alert sent by Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and vice president for security and safety.
When they arrived at the scene, the Charlottesville Fire Department learned that a grease fire had occurred and already been extinguished. The fire caused no injuries or major damage.
Bice House is located on Grounds and is apartment style housing for upperclassmen.
Fire Department personnel, along with police officers, remained at the site of the fire while the Department ventilated smoke from the building’s third floor.
This community alert is the fifth this month and follows a burglary in Pavilion III Saturday.
Community alerts are shared via email to the University community when there is timely information about a threat that can be released to the community without compromising any ongoing investigations. Timely warnings are issued when there is an ongoing threat to the community.
