Virginia field hockey coach Michelle Madison announced to be on leave

Virginia Athletics announced Thursday that field hockey Coach Michelle Madison will be on leave for the remainder of the 2023 season. Madison will miss both the ACC and the NCAA Tournaments. The release did not provide details as to the reason for Madison’s departure. 

Madison just completed her 18th season as coach of the field hockey team, compiling a 243-134 record as the Cavaliers’ head coach. Virginia has reached the NCAA Semifinals three times under her tenure. The Cavaliers finished the regular season 11-5, with a 3-2 win over James Madison Tuesday.

Associate head coach Ole Keusgen will serve as the acting head coach for postseason play.
