ARCH 4010, “Permafrost Transects”

One of the U.Va. School of Architecture's advanced research studios, Permafrost Transects, explores how to design in arctic and sub-arctic conditions. Students recently embarked on an eight-day trip to Alaska, starting in Fairbanks, then following the Dalton Highway north to Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean. Throughout the trip, students documented how the ground, landscape and built environment changed along the corridor.
