No one was going to stand in the way of Travis Watson earning his first post-season win. Not the Brown Bears. Not the officials. Not even the flu could stop this man-possessed. While his teammates were getting instructions at halftime of Virginia's first round NIT game, Watson was throwing up in the locker room, battling a sickness that had bothered him the entire first half. However, when the second half began, Watson was on the floor ready to take out the Bears. He wanted this game bad.

You couldn't have asked for a better ending. After seven straight losses leading up to last night's thriller, the situation was grim. That was until seniors Jason Rogers and Travis Watson started their last regular season home game asCavaliers. For a few hours, Virginia fans could forget about yet another late season collapse and cheer for one of the nicest and most popular players on Pete Gillen's squad in the person of Rogers.

Pete Gillen needs a hug. And he needs one badly. Following Tuesday night's embarrassing loss at the hands of a 3-7 Clemson squad, Gillen was almost at a loss for words in his postgame press conference. His team is in a tailspin that likely won't stop in the near future, and you want to know what the worst part of it is? It's really not his fault.

If Thursday's win over Maryland was the biggest win of the year, Sunday's comeback thriller can't be that far behind. Pete Gillen's Cavaliers followed up an improbable win with a victory against a team that had beat them five straight times.

On a night when Virginia basketball fans
were supposed to sit back, relax and check out their "new" team, there were far too many nervous whispers reverberating throughout University Hall. Most diehard fans were left reaching for their Tums over the final minute or two.

It's that time again. As I entered University Hall Friday night, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the fact that college basketball officially was set to get underway in only a few hours. Granted, the first regular season game still is over a month away, but witnessing a couple of lay-up drills and three point contests was enough to get my basketball jones going. Fortunately for Virginia sports marketing and promotions, just seeing the team in uniform was enough to get me going, because it certainly wasn't the activities planned that drew me to U-Hall.
