Huguely is charged with the murder of Love, his former girlfriend.

On May 3, 2010, at 2:24 a.m., Charlottesville police responded to a dispatch reporting an “alcohol overdose” at a 14th Street apartment, Charlottesville Police Officer K.W. Blackwell testified at the murder trial of former University student George Huguely yesterday. Huguely is charged with the first-degree murder of ex-girlfriend and former University student Yeardley Love.

Dennis Hohenshelt will replace Lee Maes as head coach of the Virginia volleyball team, Athletic Director Craig Littlepage announced yesterday. Hohenshelt comes to the Cavaliers after six seasons as first assistant coach for Penn State's women's volleyball team preceded by 10 seasons as the assistant coach for the men's volleyball team. The women's program compiled a 199-18 record with Hohenshelt as assistant coach.

Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Edward Hogshire granted a motion yesterday to allow George Huguely's defense attorneys access to Yeardley Love's medical records. The hearing also addressed administrative issues related to jury selection and media presence, determining that there will be no live television broadcast of Huguely's trial.

The General Assembly voted to provide $2.69 million for the replacement of the Rotunda roof yesterday, The Washington Post reported. The Assembly voted 98-1 in the House of Delegates and 40-1 in the Senate to ratify the budget amendment Gov. Bob McDonnell proposed last week. The state funding will cover more than half of the cost to repair the Rotunda's roof, a $4.69 million project. These repairs are part of the University's comprehensive plan for renovating the Rotunda. The $50.6 million renovation will last five years and is expected to finish in 2016.
