Plans to build a memorial commemorating the contributions of enslaved workers who built the University are moving forward after the Board of Visitors Buildings and Grounds Committee selected a firm to design the memorial at its September meeting.

After graduation, University students’ jobs take them everywhere from New York City to Colombia. The Career Center surveys the outgoing class each year to determine which states and countries employ the most University students. This year, for the first time, the Career Center has adopted a new data management system to give students real-time job search information. The Career Center is also working to bring a larger variety of employers to the University, offering students more options for job locations.

The IMP Society and the Black Student Alliance closed applications Wednesday for their Social Justice Fellowship grant. This $3,000 grant will be awarded to an individual or group of students in order to finance a project that focuses on inequality and injustice at the University and in the greater Charlottesville community.

The College Council announced the appointment of second-year student Vj Jenkins as the new College representative to the Honor Committee Friday. The position was vacated by Caroline Herre, who decided to pursue a master’s degree in the University’s School of Architecture. Herre will now serve as the School of Architecture’s representative to the Honor Committee.

Del. Dave LaRock, R-Hamilton, recently proposed legislation that would outlaw abortions after 20 weeks. The bill would make it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion after period except in cases of emergency.
