Rivalry games in college basketball historically put pressure on teams to go out and perform their best, but when Virginia takes on No. 19 Virginia Tech Thursday, the stakes might be even higher for the Cavaliers (13-6, 2-4 ACC). Everything looked set for the Virginia volleyball team to secure its sixth win of the season Sunday, but the wheels came off after a tough battle with Boston College. The Cavaliers (5-21, 2-12 ACC) went up two sets to none against the Eagles (8-16, 3-11 ACC) and looked to get out of the game in straight sets, but Boston College stormed back and took over the game starting in the third set.

The Virginia volleyball team can finally breathe a collective sigh of relief — they finally got that crucial win. The Cavaliers (4-14, 1-5 ACC) dropped a game to Georgia Tech on Friday at home, but rebounded with a commanding win against Clemson in straight sets on Saturday night. The team was clearly elated by finally getting a win after a couple rough weeks of figuring out their game.

It’s no secret that it’s been as rough season for the Virginia volleyball team thus far. The team has lost 11 games in a row en route to a 3-13 start to their season, and have been searching for a way to salvage their season as ACC play opened up. Though the results have not been there, the team looked hopeful and loose going into their third weekend of conference matches, not letting the losing streak deter them from their goals.
