One game after struggling to generate a sustained offensive attack against a stout Loyola defense, the No. 12 Virginia women's lacrosse team had little trouble finding the back of the net in a 23-13 triumph at Richmond. Five Cavaliers recorded hat tricks and 10 different players scored goals as Virginia (1-1) picked up its first win of the season against a Spiders team that has now given up a total of 75 goals in four consecutive losses.

After illustrating their inexperience in defeat against the Greyhounds, the Cavaliers will attempt to rebound with a victory against the in-state Spiders.

The No. 7 Virginia women's lacrosse team lost to No. 12 Loyola 15-8 in the season-opener for both teams in Baltimore, Md. Saturday. The Cavaliers struggled to contain Loyola's potent offense for the second consecutive year after losing to the Greyhounds 15-11 in last year's season-opener at home.

The No. 25 Virginia women's tennis team dominated No. 55 Marshall and No. 66 Winthrop in back-to-back matches Saturday at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers beat Marshall 6-1 and then capped the day with a 7-0 victory against Winthrop to stretch their season-opening winning streak to six matches.

The Fighting Illini (1-3, 1-0 Big Ten), meanwhile, have fallen short three times against some of the nation's top programs, including Notre Dame, Tennessee and South Florida - which are all ranked in the top 28 of the ITA rankings. Despite the defeats, the Fighting Illini have held their own as they lost by narrow 4-3 margins against No. 12 Tennessee and No. 28 South Florida.

The No. 8 Virginia men's soccer team will look to steal a conference victory tonight against No. 20 Boston College in Newton, Mass.. The Cavaliers are coming off a 2-1 comeback overtime win against Virginia Tech at home. Boston College, meanwhile, has won or tied three straight games, including a 1-1 tie against conference-leader North Carolina, a team that dealt the Cavaliers a 1-0 defeat three weeks ago.
