No. 12 Virginia wrestling competed at the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City during the weekend. At the conclusion of the three day tournament, the Cavaliers (18-3, 5-1 ACC) stood in a tie with Old Dominion for 23rd place with 18.5 points.

The meet featured several strong performances from Cavalier athletes, including a record-breaking effort in the 200-meter dash by junior Jordan Lavender.

Virginia softball kicks off its season this weekend at the USC Upstate Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C. The 2014 edition of Cavalier softball looks and feels much different than the team which took to the diamond last year, and five games spread throughout the three-day tournament will go a long way in determining the team’s identity.

The No. 13 Virginia wrestling team, coming off its first ACC loss of the season, captured a pair of home wins against Maryland and Bucknell this weekend. The Cavaliers (15-3, 3-1 ACC) narrowly escaped a late comeback by the Terrapins (5-8, 1-3 ACC) to prevail 16-15 Friday. Virginia then easily downed the Bison (7-9, 3-2 EIWA) 29-12 Sunday.

ACC newcomer No. 8 Pittsburgh handed No. 13 Virginia its first conference loss of the season Friday. The Cavaliers (13-3, 2-1 ACC) performed much better than the 25-9 score may indicate — five of Virginia’s losses were by two points or fewer.

The No. 13 Virginia wrestling team captured the Virginia Duals crown this weekend for the first time in program history, winning all three of its bouts during the two-day tournament. The top-seeded Cavaliers earned victories against Chattanooga, fifth-seeded Kent State, and second-seeded No. 14 Edinboro on their way to the title.
