After dropping its ACC opener last Saturday against No. 17 North Carolina, the No. 23 Virginia wrestling team returned home to face yet another nationally ranked opponent from the Tar Heel State on Friday. Despite wins in four weight classes and a raucous home crowd, the Cavaliers (11-8, 0-2 ACC) fell 23-17 to No. 8 N.C. State (14-2, 2-0 ACC).

Winners of four of its last five duals, the No. 25 Virginia wrestling team traveled to Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C., to open ACC competition Saturday. Despite strong performances from Virginia’s usual standouts, the Cavaliers (11-7, 0-1 ACC) fell 22-13 to No. 17 North Carolina (8-5, 1-0 ACC) in the two programs’ 78th meeting.

If you were to take a peek at the Virginia women’s volleyball team’s record (5-11, 1-5 ACC), you would probably say that the squad has been struggling this season. If you knew, though, that the Cavaliers have only won one game in the past 30 days and have the worst record in the ACC, you might even begin to use phrases like “dire situation” and “hopeless season.”
