Step by step, Iota Beta discovers brotherhood through dance

Dating back to the mid-1900s, step dancing — or “stepping” — and strolling have become an integral part of Black fraternities and sororities across the United States. This is no exception to the Iota Beta chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., as they introduce their first-ever Stroll Like An Alpha competition to the greater University community this December.


Flux’s open mic nights — the club’s hallmark event — are where this celebration of all art forms takes place most frequently.

Every Thursday evening in the belly of Brooks Hall sits the collection of poets, creatives and arts enthusiasts that make up Flux, the University’s student-led poetry and spoken word organization. The only one of its kind on Grounds, Flux plays a unique and important role in the community, giving its participants a place to express themselves and a platform to share their work.

Dr. Rotich discusses the new knowledge and informational experiences students gain from traveling around Kenya, and how she provides opportunities for cultural immersion. She also analyzes the benefits of studying abroad and how students can most insightfully learn about other cultures.
