The University Police Department is facing allegations of discrimination after a Latinx student gathering on the Lawn was broken up by officers the evening of Aug. 25.
The Charlottesville Low Income Housing Coalition and the Legal Aid Justice Center held an event Thursday night to discuss displacement and affordable housing in Charlottesville.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe created two investigative bodies — the Task Force on Public Safety Preparedness and Response to Civil Unrest and the Commonwealth Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — in light of recent violence in Charlottesville.
"We were totally focused on August 12," Sullivan said. "We should have been more aware that something could have happened either before or after."
The demands are being championed by the Black Student Alliance and numerous other student groups.
Signer apologized to his colleagues and the City of Charlottesville for his actions during the “deeply troubling and traumatizing recent weeks.”
The goal of the initiative is for the students to strengthen their connections with the Charlottesville community.
The event was originally meant to be an open mic night, but was turned into an open discussion based on concerns with comfort in dialogue.
