Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed into law last week a repeal of the $64 tax on hybrid cars in Virginia, first enacted last year. McAuliffe repealed the bill during an appearance on WTOP radio’s “Ask the Governor” program. The revised mandate will go into effect July 1, 2014 and affect approximately 75,000 hybrid vehicle owners in the state.
The University is currently working to further develop Morven Farms, a 2,913 acre University-owned property just south of Monticello and Ash Lawn-Highland, and will partner with architectural firm Hart Howerton to explore opportunities for continued growth and improving present initiatives at the farm.

The Board of Visitors voted last week to increase the tuition rates for many graduate programs offered by the University, both in the College and other schools. The increases in tuition and fees range between 1.2 and 19.6 percent, with rates varying for in-state and out-of-state students.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday, the University Board of Elections voting website, www.uvavote.com, experienced “unplanned downtime” that was likely a crash due to heavy traffic. According to the Board, the occurrence prevented some students from voting during a two-hour window Monday morning, but did not alter votes which were already cast.
