Honor Committee passes bylaw changes

The Honor Committee unanimously approved the formerly temporary bylaws governing the implementation of informed retraction with nine changes on Sunday evening, along with 13 other bylaw changes. Informed retraction, which was passed by the student body in February, permits reported students to admit to an honor offense and leave the community for two semesters.

Jefferson Trust recognizes University projects

The Alumni Association’s Jefferson Trust awarded more than $670,000 to 16 different University-based programs in a public ceremony held on the Lawn last Friday. This marks the eighth straight year the Trust has presented the grants.

Board of Visitors approves tuition increases

As a result of these increases, in-state undergraduate students will see a $452 increase in tuition and fees, which amounts to 3.8 percent of current rates. Out-of-state students’tuition will increase by 4.8 percent, or $1,826 annually.

Student Health reports mumps case

A probable case of mumps has been diagnosed within the student body, Executive Director of Student Health Dr. James Turner said in an email to the University community Tuesday.


	An anonymous hacker under the name “Root the Box” caused the University’s main webpage to redirect to a picture of the group’s logo, a pixelated white skull on a black background, before going to the @R00tTh3B0x twitter feed Monday night.

Board approves abortion regulations

The Virginia Board of Health approved permanent regulations on abortion clinics in the state on Friday in an 11-2 vote. Attorney General Cuccinelli certified the regulations on the same day.

Behrle, Nash send University-wide email

Present and past Honor Committee Chairs Evan Behrle and Stephen Nash, third and fourth-year College students, sent an e-mail to University students, faculty and staff yesterday afternoon sharing information about the Informed Retraction and Honor Committee bylaw amendments. Behrle said, “The fundamental purpose of the email [was] to provide legal notice to students” about the change to the Honor System.

McAuliffe jumps out to early fundraising lead

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Terry McAuliffe announced Friday he raised over $5 million in the first quarter of the Virginia governor’s race. Republican Candidate Ken Cuccinelli, the Virginia attorney general, announced he raised $2.4 million in the same time period Monday evening.

The Honor Committee will vote next week to create permanent bylaws governing the administration of informed retraction, which was made a part of the Honor Committee’s constitution in a referendum approved by the student body in February.
